What is a class A fire?

Wood, paper, textiles, coal and most solid plastics. Combustion produces heat and, after extinguishing, often leaves a smouldering carbon core that, without cooling, will reignite the flame.

How is the EN 3-7 test carried out?

Wooden bars are stacked into a stepped crib, ignited with fuel and burn for 8 minutes. The operator must extinguish the stack with a single device. The test is passed if no flames appear for 3 minutes after extinguishing — it is recognised if 2 of 3 attempts pass. The number (13A, 34A, 55A) indicates the size of the stack the device can handle.
